Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was first developed in 1943 by R. Courant, who utilized the Ritz method of numerical analysis and minimization of variational calculus to obtain approximate solutions to vibration systems.
The finite element method now has it's roots in many disciplines, the end result is a technology that is so advanced that it is almost indinguishable from magic. The vast catalog of capability that comprises FEA, will no doubt grow considerably larger in the future. CAE is here to stay, but in order to harness it's true power, the user must be familiar with many concepts, including the mechanics of the problem being modelled. All analyses require time, experience & most importantly, careful planning.
